Forge42Engine is officially firing on all cylinders.
Lately, I’ve been deep in the weeds building out the core rules system — specifically entering spells, defining their effects, and wiring up how they’ll ultimately interact with the battle engine. It’s one of those “slow but foundational” phases where every detail matters, and honestly… it’s been incredibly satisfying work.
My current goal is to have the bulk of the core rules fully entered before the next semester kicks off in about 18 days. It’s a tight window, but with steady late-night sessions, a questionable amount of black coffee, and a stubborn refusal to slow down, the Forge keeps burning hot.
Once the core rules are in place, the real fun begins:
- Finalizing spell logic
- Implementing combat flow
- Building out the actual battle engine behavior
But before that, there’s still a fair amount of spell work to finish — and then monsters. After that? Combat logic finally gets its time in the spotlight.
I’m also kicking around the idea of another NPC pass. With newer and more powerful LLMs available for fine-tuning, I may go back and reseed, regenerate, and refine several of the existing characters. The goal is sharper personalities, better memory handling, and more consistent long-term behavior.
And speaking of that…
If you haven’t yet, take a few minutes to read my latest Medium series on RAG and NPC memory systems. It dives into how memory, retrieval, and structured knowledge turn NPCs from “chatbots” into something that actually feels alive. That series pretty much underpins everything I’m building right now.
More updates soon — the Forge is far from cooling down.
Happy Computing –
Babble Baz
