Flash back to 1992 — the sound of a modem screaming into the night, ANSI menus glowing in green and orange, and a BBS called Fantasy Uprising connecting the Houston metro scene one user at a time.
Fast-forward to today, and here I am again, back where it all started… but with a few upgrades. Instead of DOS, COM ports, and long-distance bills, I’m building systems with .NET Core 8.0, PostgreSQL, and fine-tuned AI models. And instead of sysops dropping by at 1:00 AM with their entire desktop in tow (true story), I’ve got AI companions like Mindella and Kadines running inside my own digital world.
This site — BabbleBaz.com — is where I’ll showcase it all. Here’s what you’ll find as you poke around:
- Retro42BBS → A fully ANSI-driven, modern BBS that blends T.A.G. nostalgia with today’s tech stack. Blackjack and Trivia door games included, because some things never go out of style.
- DM42 Dungeon Master → My AI Game Master who can spin up a fantasy adventure in the land of Tharendell whenever the dice start calling.
- AI NPCs → Fine-tuned characters like Mindella, Maisy, and Kadines, each their own standalone model with personality, quirks, and lore.
- Python Projects & Research → Scripts, automations, and experiments, from OCR hacks that saved washed-out PDFs to AI research papers I’ve published.
Why call it a “portfolio”? Because it’s more than just a blog or a retro playground — this is where I’m building my bridge between the dial-up past and the AI-driven future.
So, welcome aboard. Feel free to explore the menus, roll a d20, or click through some ANSI nostalgia. Just don’t ask me to bring back long-distance charges. 😉
Stay tuned — the real fun is just getting started.
