I’m in full upload mode over here—there’s a pile of work I want to get onto the site for you all to poke and prod. A couple of my papers are with professors right now for a sanity check on clarity and reproducibility. Most of them orbit the same star: Tharendell, and specifically how I’m using a RAG system to deepen NPC backstories, behaviors, and overall personality. More signal, less fluff.
On the model front: I’m in the final stages of fine-tuning the mastermind, DM42. Seeds and prompts? Done. The last step is committing the compute time for a full tune. If the weekend honey-do list doesn’t go DEFCON 1, I’ll kick off the training on “The Beast” and let it hum while I handle chores. Multitasking is a lifestyle.
Real-Time “Chat with the SysOp”
I rolled out a new feature on Retro42BBS: you can now Chat with the SysOp in real time.
My first plan was to use a carrier to SMS whenever someone pinged the SysOp. But with the new messaging regulations, and the whole “register as an entity even for personal use” thing, I pivoted. The new path uses a private Discord server, webhooks, and a couple of bots I wrote. It’s clean, fast, and mobile-friendly. No matter where I am, I can respond instantly.
Privacy, Because It Matters
I’ve also been tightening up Privacy Policies across my sites. Common sense and basic respect: I’m not selling your data to anyone—foreign, domestic, or otherwise. If you’re curious, you can read the policy for this site by following the link in the footer.
Next Week: R&R (…Mostly)
Next week I’m pointing myself toward the mountains for some sorely needed R&R and farm chores. That means a slower week for the DM42 battle engine and Tharendell build. Apart from the coursework I’ve got to keep up with, I’m planning very little computer time. (We both know I might sneak in a commit or two, but let’s pretend I’m disciplined.)
Happy computing —
Babble Baz
